Aquatec Maxcon delivered end-to-end process, mechanical and electrical design, installation and commissioning for the Bowen Sewage Treatment Plant upgrade. Civil works were managed by a local subcontractor, ensuring a seamless brownfield expansion.
Process Upgrades
- New pre-treatment area featuring 5 mm coarse screens, vortex grit removal and 2 mm fine screens
- Septage receival and treatment facility
- Bioreactor with dedicated anoxic, aerobic and de-aeration zones
- Three membrane tanks with proprietary modules and air-scouring blowers
- Retained chlorine contact tank with gas chlorination for pathogen control
Effluent & Recycled Water Treatment
- Recycled water balance tank to buffer treated flows
- In-line, pre-validated ultraviolet system to achieve Class A recycled water
- Chemical dosing system plus truck unloading bay for phosphorus precipitation and membrane cleaning
Solids Handling
- Mechanical gravity drainage deck for sludge thickening
- Conversion of existing bioreactor and clarifier into an MLE-configured aerobic digester
- Integration of existing dewatering system with new sludge-wasting option for improved flexibility and performance
Odour Control
- Comprehensive odour modelling to pinpoint emission zones
- Biological trickling filter and activated carbon unit treating foul air from the PTA, bioreactor, septage facility and pump station before atmospheric release
Site Infrastructure
- New blower room supplying air to the bioreactor, MBR tanks and digester
- Blockwork switch room powering the entire plant
- Administration building with lab, SCADA room, control room, laundry, toilets and showers
- Repurposed existing admin building as a training facility
- Dedicated workshop for storage and maintenance
- Backup generator for emergency power
Access & Maintenance
- 6 m-wide ring road enabling two-way traffic and 21 m chemical delivery trucks
- 65 t crane pad to support heavy-lift maintenance activities
