A long-term water security study showed that Marian and Mirani’s existing groundwater bores couldn’t keep pace with regions projected growth. A water security project was scoped by council to safeguard reliable, high-quality drinking water for the townships. An alternative water source in the Pioneer River was identified a new treatment plant was required to treat the water to Australian Drinking Standards for the community.
Aquatec Maxcon was engaged to deliver the turnkey Design and Construct project that would see a new treatment plant built that would cater for the rising population and secure the water future of the region.
Raw water quality varied throughout the year from the new source. Our solution was to utilise highly efficient Meurer Research Institute MRI Lamella Clarifiers which not only offered small footprint but enhanced clarification particularly during season weather events.
The full treatment process consists of:
The Marion site that was selected by council was located close to the raw water source but was at risk of seasonal flooding, so elevations needed to be considered for all plant and equipment. Along with all the lamella plates, media filtration and other process equipment the project delivered a new administration building featuring offices and staff amenities, a new workshop/store and new switch room for power and SCADA operations
The outcome of this multi award winning project is the security of water supply of up to 4 ML/day, for the current and future residents of Marian and Mirani. Through resilient water treatment plant design utilising the latest technology Aquatec Maxcon delivered a new water treatment plant that processes the raw water to supply the community with safe award-winning tasting water, and provides drought and flood free intergenerational infrastructure
